Healthy, Sustainable, Diverse: The New Expectations for Production

The beverage industry today faces enormous market pressure. Consumers not only expect innovative and healthy products, but increasingly also sustainable options that reduce the ecological footprint. This diversification of product lines forces companies to adapt their production quickly, often within very short timeframes. At the same time, economic pressure is rising as raw material and energy costs continue to climb. Labor shortages make the situation even more challenging, since new processes and regulations — such as the European
Packaging Regulation
— require fast training and implementation on the shop floor.

On top of that, consumers are increasingly following trends and showing less brand loyalty, which accelerates product launches even further. Constantly changing consumption preferences demand even greater flexibility in production. As a result, production lines must not only be efficient but also extremely adaptable to meet the complex demands of the market.

From the Pressure of Reality to the Dynamic of Innovation

With every change — whether it’s a new product, a new regulation, or higher sustainability requirements — the challenge of connecting production and knowledge becomes increasingly complex, while efficiency remains crucial in the face of rising energy and material costs.

Underlying all these developments are two key questions: How can production be managed so that it stays robust and efficient? And how can knowledge be made available in a way that allows new requirements to be quickly adopted, employees to be onboarded efficiently, and processes to be adjusted flexibly?

There is an opportunity to support these processes through the targeted use of tech — not as an end in itself, but as a means to consolidate information, simplify decision-making, and implement changes smoothly. In this way, innovation is not  an abstract buzzword, but a dynamic force that drives daily work and opens up new opportunities. Between pressure and possibility, a space emerges where production, experience sharing, and technical knowledge intersect.

Paths to More Agility

When a new product is coming down the line, regulations change, and employees need to learn new processes, it becomes clear how closely efficiency and knowledge are intertwined.

Since 2015, our founders have been deeply focused on the question of how knowledge in production can be used and shared efficiently. They conducted research at the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV, before the 2019 spin-off Peerox brought MADDOX to life as a concrete solution for knowledge management in production and for improving production efficiency.

MADDOX addresses the problem that even the most well-maintained knowledge database is of little use if, due to lack of experience, you don’t know what to search for when a production issue occurs. Often, the correct term for affected machine parts is unknown, ambiguous, or you may find dozens of possible causes for the symptom or error code reported in the machine.

MADDOX’s self-learning, AI-based search algorithm recognizes characteristic patterns and connections in error descriptions and their corresponding solutions, allowing it to identify relevant information and potential causes even from vague or incomplete search queries.

Our collaboration with Rotkäppchen-Mumm is an interesting example of how MADDOX can make an impact in the industry.
